Antithrombotic

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

An antithrombotic agent is a drug that reduces the formation of blood clots. Antithrombotics can be used therapeutically for prevention or treatment of a dangerous blood clot.

Natural blood thinners are substances that reduce the blood’s ability to form clots. Blood clotting is a necessary process, but sometimes the blood can clot too much, leading to complications that can be potentially dangerous. Some foods and other substances that may act as natural blood thinners and help reduce the risk of clots include: Turmeric, Ginger, Cayenne Pepper, Vitamin E (almonds, sunflower seeds, whole grains), Garlic, Cinnamon, Ginkgo biloba, Grape seed extract, Gingseng (Dong quai), and Bromelain (enzyme from Pineapple stems).
