Ok my usual mascara has 34 chemicals. As someone who is trying to become toxin-free. Homemade mascara was big on my todo list.
Before I made the above recipe, I had just purchased all the ingredients for a different recipe (one that uses bees wax), but I wanted to make some before work, didn’t have enough time, and found this other egg yolk recipe from Kristin Bishop over at NaturalNews.com and her post convinced me that the egg yolk one would not only work a lot better, but is a lot quicker and easier to make, has the added bonus of only 2 ingredients, and..eggs are really great for your eyes anyway.. the yolk helps condition the lashes, and egg whites help strengthen (so I’m using the eggwhite + castor oil together to make an eyelash serum, and using the yolk for the mascara). Sweet.
I totally love this new and natural mascara. It’s quick to make, good for your eyes (all the nutrients from the egg yolk), safe for your eyes, very black. Lasts all Day. Doesn’t flake. Keeps eyes & lashes feeling fresh, and doesn’t weigh down my lashes.
I also love that the yolk is conditioning my lashes ~ (just like I love when I’m “sneakily” wearing hair masks or skin treatments at work without anyone realizing.. this is another way of doing some hidden “pampering” / things that are good for my cells, without having to wait for ‘days off’.. my “lash conditioning treatment” can be done on “work’s time” guilt-free)
For me personally, I’m also pretty happy that it doesn’t have that “fake ~ overdone” look. Separates lashes nicely. Although your eye brush and the amount you apply to the brush gives you full control of how “thick” you want it and the look you are going for. I like “light & natural”, but it could easily do that false-lash look if that’s more your cup of tea.
Note: I don’t use mascara on bottom lashes.. and in the photo, I’m not wearing any other makeup (and I haven’t slept well in a few days).
