Classifieds and How To Convert Craigslist
Quick Steps for Writing Effective Classified Ads:
- Write to one person, like you are having a one-on-one conversation.
- Write a list of Features
- Next to each feature, write a list of benefits.
- Use your best Benefit as your headline
- Use your best features to for the ad.
- Cull your ad down to 5 lines long x 60 characters wide (Craigslist ads can be much longer however!).
- Get rid of all the exclamation marks!!! that you just put in your ad ;)
- Offer something for free (your PDF, your 5 day course, etc)
eg:
FEATURE: Make a million dollars online
BENEFIT: Enjoy the luxurious lifestyle of the rich and famous, right in your own home.
See the difference?
A feature is what your product or service does.
The benefit is the feel good feeling you get from the feature.
Craigslist
Craigslist is the 9th most visited site on the internet and gets more traffic than Amazon.com! It has great traffic potential if you can master it.
If you find after you post several ads to Craigslist, that it is an effective marketing tool for you.. that you have the gift ;), then you will want to look into Craigslist Autoposters to make it easier to post a lot faster (Craigslist is frustratingly slow to post to!).
But in the meantime, stick with free and see if it’s something that is effective for you before spending any cash related to it.
I don’t know of any “cheap” auto posters that are good, I’ve only seen crap ones, but then never really had a proper look because had never posted to Craiglist before.. I’ll keep my eyes peeled and if any Craigslist users are reading this.. please comment to this post to help others.
Tips for Craigslist:
- Offer Detailed descriptions
- To post more text and without worrying about keywords flags, create “Images” of your ad and post the “image” to your craigslist.
- Post a picture or images
- Use HTML to make your ad “pretty”
- Titles must match corresponding category you are posting to.
Tips to reduce flagging by the visitors:
- Make the ads non-commercial looking
- Make the ads local looking
- Choose the appropriate category. Don’t post to non-related sections.
- Use as many different titles as possible. Titles should match with the theme of the respective category.
- Use as many different descriptions as possible.
- If you want to receive emails from the visitors use craigslsit’s anonymous email feature.

MySpace Classifieds
My Suggestion for using the MySpace classifieds, and keep your account from being deleted (MySpace deletes money-making posts), is to post to the “MySpace Friends” section of the ads, and look for friends that are into The Secret, The Law of Attraction, Powerful Intentions, or the Science of Getting Rich, etc.
Although I’m sure there are ways that have been explored to advertise the SGR program there, just browse around the classifieds and see what others are doing to get some ideas.
eBay Classifieds
Well for as little as $19.99 you can get a 28 day listing on eBay Classifieds. The listing will then be spidered by the Googlebot and inclusion on Google Search Engine Result Pages is assured. You will learn more about this in a future lesson – Lesson 19 – eBay to Drive Traffic.
Facebook Classifieds
I haven’t used the Facebook Classifieds yet, but found it today so thought I’d better at least mention it. ;) I’ll be sure to update this lesson once I’ve had an opportunity to trial it out!
