[Police Standing up] Craig Backman – Former VIC Police

October 30 2021 My name is Craig Backman and until recently, I WAS, a proud Senior Constable with Victoria Police.

I just want to say to everyone of you here – who can obviously see the bigger picture of what’s going on here. This is not just about a jab or no jab, and the ridicule that you’ve all faced in the media, that you can still come out here and still be here and still be strong, to fight this good fight, you people are the ones who are going to be remembered as heroes.

I thank you on behalf of my family & my children which you’re all fighting for.
I thank you on behalf of these police officers, who you’re also fighting for.

The louder you speak, the more often you speak, I think they will start to get it.

When I came out against all this nonsense, and that’s what it is, absolute nonsense, and my colleagues back here, they know this – they know it’s nonsense. I came out because I could see the divide that was coming. The divide that was caused. I could see my colleagues who were trapped by a paycheck following unjust orders.

I saw the community calling for violence against them and it was breaking my heart because I know that every single one of these people is a saint at heart and wants to help the community – I know that.

I signed up to be a police officer because I wanted to be a part of the thin blue line, and I heard some nonsense stories even from the leadership of the police force, saying that’s about white supremacy.

The thin blue line is a layer of protection, that is there to protect the good hard-working decent citizens of Victoria from those who seek to do them harm.

What I am seeing, and what many have seen, and what many are yet to grasp, are that those who seek them harm are IN THAT BUILDING.

October 13, 2021 – My name is Craig Backman and until recently, I WAS, a proud Senior Constable with Victoria Police.
On the 17th of September 2021, I wrote an email to Management of Victoria Police where I outlined my reasons for refusing to be a part of any activity that I believed unfairly breached the Human Rights of Victorian citizens, as ordered by the Victorian Government.

I had hoped that by speaking out in such a formal way, that my message would have been taken seriously by Victoria Police and may have been encouraging to other members, who I knew where also deeply conflicted regarding the enforcement of Health recommendations that have been inconsistent, illogical and detrimental to our communities as a whole, in so many ways.

I was also concerned that Victoria Police was losing the trust and faith of the Victorian Public, through the tactics used to enforce these recommendations, which have at times, in the eyes of many including myself, been quite brutal, and creating unnecessarily dangerous situations for all.
