Transcript + Fact Check of Claims

The U.S. Institute of Peace now has a new name: the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.

Claim: The U.S. Institute of Peace was renamed “Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace”

VERDICT: FACTUAL

The State Department renamed the organization in December 2025 to “reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation’s history.” The move is currently being challenged in court as the administration seized the congressionally created nonprofit. (01)

The Wikipedia article confirms: “In December 2025, the State Department announced that the institute had been renamed the ‘Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace,’ and President Donald Trump’s name was attached to the façade of the building.” (02)

This is also corroborated by Axios: “The Trump administration seized the U.S. Institute of Peace building earlier this year, fired its staff and renamed it the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.” (03)

Nigeria, Venezuela, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, and Iran.

Claim: Trump ordered military strikes against Nigeria, Venezuela, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, and Iran

VERDICT: FACTUAL

All seven strikes are confirmed by official U.S. military sources and international news reports: (04)

  5. Somalia First military action of second term Feb 2025, ongoing – occurring just 10 days after his inauguration. Since then, the U.S. has conducted over 100 strikes in Somalia. (09) (10) (11) (12)
  6. Yemen Operation Rough Rider March 2025 onward (13)
  7. Syria Operation Hawkeye Strike Dec 19, 2025 (14)
  8. Nigeria Christmas Day Tomahawk strikes Dec 25, 2025 (15)

No president in the modern era has ordered more military strikes against as many different countries as Trump.

From the start of his first term to now, Trump has authorized military strikes in 10 countries, more than any other president in the 21st century. He has also authorized a higher number of military strikes than any other modern president. (16)

  • Trump (10): Afghanistan*, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Libya, Syria, Venezuela, Nigeria, Iran.
  • Obama (7): Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Syria.
  • Biden (5): Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, Yemen.
  • Bush (5): Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia.

*The Afghanistan war continued through Trump’s first term, with Biden ending it amid a chaotic withdrawal and suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. military members in 2021.

“No president in the modern era has ordered more military strikes against as many different countries as Donald Trump. He’s attacked seven nations, three of which — IranNigeria and Venezuela — had never been targeted by U.S. military strikes. He authorized more individual air strikes in 2025 than President Biden did in four years. (17)

TIME X Post (18)

A TIME magazine cover shows eight red MAGA caps with the names of eight countries, including Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, Iraq and Syria. The other three countries named are Yemen, Ecuador and Somalia. (Note: Ecuador strikes targeted drug trafficking vessels.) (19) (20)

  • From the start of his first term to now, Trump has ordered strikes on 10 countries.
  • Since starting his second term in January 2025, he has struck 7 countries (Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq) and boats in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean.
  • Trump carried out more drone strikes during his first term than each of Obama and Bush’s presidencies.
  • In 2017 alone, Trump authorized over 10,000 more bombings on Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan than Obama and Bush did in each of their years with the highest military activity.
  • Trump authorized more individual air strikes in 2025 than Biden did over his four-year term. (21)

The claim is true regardless of whether you count first term, second term, or both. Trump has ordered military strikes on more countries (10) than any other modern president, and he has ordered a higher number of individual strikes than any other modern president.

“Why didn’t we just capture this ship? We could’ve used it. Why did we sink `em? They said it’s more fun to sink them, they like sinking them better.”

Claim: “More fun to sink them” – Trump conversation with military officials on not ‘capturing’ Iranian ships

VERDICT: FACTUAL

Trump said at the Republican Members Conference:

“Their Navy is gone, it’s all lying at the bottom of the ocean. 46 ships, can you believe it?” Trump said. “I got a little upset with the people. I said ‘what quality are they?

‘Excellent, sir. Top of the line.’

I said, ‘why didn’t we just capture the ship? We could have used it.’ I said ‘why did we sink them’?

He said ‘it’s more fun to sink them.’ They like sinking them better.”

Corroborating report with additional detail: “They say it’s safer to sink. I guess it’s probably true.” (22) (23)

Death and destruction from the sky.
All. Day. Long.
We are punching them all the way down, which is exactly how it should be.

Pete Hegseth, U.S. Secretary of Defense

Claim: US Sec. of Defense ‘death and destruction from the sky all day long

VERDICT: FACTUAL

The statement was made by Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, during a Pentagon press briefing on March 4, 2026. (24)

The full quote, delivered during a briefing regarding military operations in Iran, is as follows:

They are toast, and they know it, or at least soon enough, they will know it. And we have only just begun to hunt, dismantle, demoralize, destroy, and defeat their capabilities just four days in.

Starting last night, and to be completed in a few days, in under a week, the two most powerful air forces in the world will have complete control of Iranian skies, uncontested airspace.

I hope all the folks watching understand what uncontested airspace and complete control means. It means we will fly all day, all night, day and night, finding, fixing, and finishing the missiles and defense industrial base of the Iranian military, finding and fixing their leaders and their military leaders, flying over Tehran, flying over Iran, flying over their capital, flying over the IRGC, Iranian leaders looking up and seeing only U.S. and Israeli air power every minute of every day until we decide it’s over. And Iran will be able to do nothing about it.

B-2s, B-52s, B-1s, Predator drones, fighters controlling the skies, picking targets, death and destruction from the sky, all day long. We’re playing for keeps. Our warfighters have maximum authorities granted personally by the President and yours truly. Our rules of engagement are bold, precise, and designed to unleash American power, not shackle it. This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight. We are punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should be. (25)

Public Reaction:

The remarks drew significant criticism from international bodies and human rights groups, with Iran’s Foreign Ministry describing the language as an admission of war crimes. Critics in the media and political sphere also pointed to the “macho” and “vengeful” tone of the briefing. (26)

Human Rights Activists:

An independent organization that researches rights violations in Iran reported that at least 44 Iranian schools were damaged in the early weeks of the conflict.

  • Civilian Casualties: At least 1,443 civilian deaths, including 217 children, between 28 February and 23 March 2026.
  • Infrastructure Damage: The report verified damage to 44 schools, 60 hospitals or medical centers, and 129 residential buildings.

They participated in a joint report with Airwars and the Center for Civilians in Conflict documenting approximately 1,500 civilian deaths from the strikes. (27)

We have a breaking update on the Pentagon’s preliminary investigation into a strike on a school in Iran, which killed at least 175 people, most of them children.

It’s a preliminary report, but if this is the final conclusion, this will be one of the largest killings of civilians by mistake by American forces in decades. Again, 175 people killed, according to Iranian officials, most of them children.

Claim: School strike in Iran – 175 killed, most children; Pentagon investigation

VERDICT: FACTUAL (with context that investigation is ongoing)

Casualty figure: 175 killed, most of them children according to Iranian officials

Date of strike: February 28, 2026

Location: Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school, Minab, Iran

“A group of senior Democratic senators pressed the Pentagon… as it investigates a strike on a school in Iran that reportedly killed at least 175 people, most of them children, during US-Israeli airstrikes against Iran.” (28)

NYT investigation shows the school was hit by a US Tomahawk missile; satellite imagery confirms the school was walled off from an adjacent IRGC naval base since 2015.

A New York Times investigation confirmed that the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in Iran was struck by a U.S. Tomahawk cruise missile on February 28, 2026, based on satellite imagery, verified videos, and analysis of wreckage. The investigation found that fragments at the site, labelled with U.S. contractor markings and a 2014 contract number.

9 March 2026: During a press briefing, in response to a question from a journalist about a Tomahawk missile likely striking the school, US President Donald Trump claimed that “Iran or somebody else” was responsible for the attack. When pressed by another journalist who said – why are you the only one saying that? He said “because I just don’t know enough about it, I think it’s something that I was told was under investigation, but Tomahawks are used by others, … but I will certainly, whatever the report shows, I’m willing to live with that report.” (35)

17 March 2026: In a public resignation letter, Kent (a former Green Beret and staunch Trump supporter) stated he could not “in good conscience” support the war, asserting that Iran posed “no imminent threat” to the United States. He alleged the administration was pressured into the conflict by “high-ranking Israeli officials” and a “powerful American lobby,” which he claimed used a misinformation campaign to undermine the “America First” platform. 27 March 2026: U.N. Human Rights Council Holds Debate on Probe After “168 Children Killed” in Alleged US-Israel Strike. Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs starts the debate saying:

“…more than 600 schools have been demolished or damaged across Iran and more than 1,000 students and teachers martyred or wounded as the result. The aggressors who are arrogantly shouting no mercy, no quarters and threatening to strike Iran’s vital infrastructure have been attacking hospitals, ambulances, health workers, red crescent rescuers, refineries, water sources, and residential areas.” (41)

A Republican congresswoman formally nominated him in January 2026. (42)

In Tenney’s official press release, she lists the wars she claims Trump ended:

“He successfully negotiated settlements to eight international conflicts within a single year, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, India and Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand, Egypt and Ethiopia, Serbia and Kosovo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Israel and Iran, and Israel and Hamas.”

“I settled eight wars, big ones, some going on for 36 years… I can’t think of anybody in history that should get the Nobel Prize more than me.” ~ Trump, March 2026 (43)

Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu nominated him in July 2025, citing his role in “forging peace” and the Abraham Accords. (44) (45)

Lithuanian parliament speaker was asked by Israel to sign Trump’s Nobel Prize nomination letter. Trump has repeatedly stated he deserves Nobel Peace Prize for stopping ‘eight and a quarter wars’ ” (46)

US Congressman Darrell Issa declared in a post on X that he too would nominate Trump for the prestigious prize, adding: ‘No-one deserves it more.’

Ukrainian parliamentarian Oleksandr Merezhko also nominated Trump back in November 2024. (47) (48)

A resolution was introduced in the Senate by Republican Senators: Bill Cassidy and John Barrasso in October 2025 recommending Trump receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

“Resolved, That the Senate— … (3) recommends that President Donald J. Trump be awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his accomplishments and legacy of saving lives.” (49)

The resolution specifically cited Operation Warp Speed and the rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines as the basis for the recommendation. (50)

The Department of War

I’ll have to make another post when I have more time, on how he also renamed the Department of Defense to the Department of War. (51)

Words are important. “Defense” implies a response to aggression, a shield against attack. It carries a sense of justification, of being “forced” into action. In 1947, when the War Department became the Defense Department, the stated reason was to emphasize that the U.S. would “fight only when attacked”. But Trump renamed the “Department of Defense” (DoD) back to the “Department of War” in 2025.

  • 1789: War Department established
  • 1947: National Security Act created the “National Military Establishment”
  • 1949: Renamed the Department of Defense (DOD) to emphasize the U.S. commitment to “peace through strength” after World War II
  • Sept 2025: President Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Defense to be referred to as the Department of War again, calling it “a much more appropriate name”.

The rich and powerful kill. Then they rename the building. Then they laugh about it. Then they nominate each other for prizes.

The only thing left is to refuse the propaganda language.

Call it murder. Call it bombing children. Call it what it is.

What a time to be alive…
