Today I stumbled into the site of a 13-year old Kidblogger (now he’s 15) and was amazed as to how he managed to grab the top spot at Google for keywords which some people have been trying to rank for such a long time.Well, he’s number 1, sometimes number 2 or number 3 for the keyword phrase "make money online".Not only that, he manages to earn a handsome four figure monthly income because of his top Google blog.

I am sooooo NOT a CSS Themer.. I rely on the good work of others for all my themes..I want to be though, I dont like having to rely on anyone for anything, I’m a motivated do-it-yourself kinda gal.But when it comes to CSS.. man, I just need so much more training.. I want to find some kind of online course (not tutorials that bore you to death), that you can create great themes with, etc.
  • Your PageRank can DIE with Wordpress - 17 Ways to Optimize SEO
Posted on Sunday, November 16th, 2008 in Plugin Reviews - Comments: (6)
Recently I’ve been looking back into SEO for Wordpress since converting all my static sites into Wordpress blogs, and finding that my pagerank decreased and in some cases disappeared completely. I totally expected the opposite to happen. I had made some huge mistakes and unfortunately I did it to all my sites at once. The default settings in Wordpress was not only blocking search engines but even if they weren’t blocked, they were very poorly SEO optimised.

Review of WpInstall.com - Blog Setup & Submission

Review of WPInstall.com

Review of WpInstall.com

I found this new site (launched in August) the other day and I must say that I’m extremely impressed. They have some great deals on setting up your blogs for you, including the content, keywords, plugins, SEO, ads, and submission to RSS feeds and Social Bookmarking sites.

Basically, for the "cost of a night out", and with "no work" by you, you can have your new biz blog up and running without all the hassle!

15 Page Wordpress Ready SiteWordpress Pro Site

I can see even Pro bloggers using this service to save the "backend" time that it takes to setup new blogs and submit to feeds, and gather the first lot of content, etc. I’m especially impressed with all the social bookmarking sites they set you up on, they must really know their stuff. I might even do it for those sites that I’ve already wasted months on, and have lost momentum with, just to get them up and running.

They’ve even got "addon" services such as publishing your video with your URL to 30+ video sites for only $25, and unique articles to article-sites, etc. The submit unique article add-on is only $50.

Included in their "basic" package (the $45 one), you will also receive 30,000 articles that you can modify and use on your blogs. A lot of customers are using one of the most popular money making technique on the web (products data feeds) as content. Basically, each post will contain a different product, with a picture, a detailed description of the product and the price. A link with your own affiliate code will be encoded on each post. Whenever someone will buy the product, you will get your affiliate commission.

Some merchants offer up to 200,000 products on their data feeds, and each affiliate network has hundred if not thousands of merchants. You can promote millions of products, sky is the only limit. (These affiliate networks have data feeds: Linkshare.com , Shareasale.com , CJ.com and Amazon).

WPInstall ProductsFor the "Pro" package, they also offer free download access to their products page. - containing over 1000 e-books, software, tutorials, designs, promotional tools with full reseller rights - The package price is $300 for normal customers.

And they have services for those who want non-Wordpress CMS’s, such as: PHPLD, Joomla, Drupal, Freeglobes, & Pligg.

What I think is great, is that even the "newest" most technically challenged newbie can create their own site up within a few hours! Without the steep learning curve and "months" wasted that we’ve all been through, breaking and tweaking our blogs.. spending "days" creating logos, lol, and then staring blankly at the screen trying to figure out how to write your first post, etc.

Even if you have no idea what you want a site about, they have a list of over 1000 different niches to choose from, and the keywords for each niche. Once you decide on the niche/category of your new website, they do all the rest, including setting up your new website to be Search-Engine friendly. Your website will also be submitted to rss feeds (this will jump start your traffic and will keep the se spiders on your site daily). Here is a list of the high pr RSS engines they currently submit to:

Wordpress 2.6.1 404 Error Terror!

After upgrading to 2.6.1 and noticing hardly any errors.. I happily went to bed knowing that the only real problems I had were the same that I already had prior to the upgrade. In the morning, I couldn’t browse my site (my "edit" pages were still open from the posts that I’d made but clicking on any options, gave me a 404 error)

My Public Site was now a permanent 404 error and same error when trying to get into the backend.

All the files are there on FTP.
All the other subdomains work on the domain.

Ugh.

So I guess I "get my wish" afterall, and now will have some help for others who have problems when upgrading to 2.6.1 (The Law of Attraction working in the opposite way lol)

Here’s what "Didn’t Work for me" (just in case it "does" work for you)..

1) Tried this fix: with no luck (Removing a cron job manually from PhpMyAdmin)

a:3:{i:1220731709;a:1:{s:18:"twitterdoodle_ping";a:1:{s:32:"40cd750bba9870f18aada2478b24840a";a:3:{s:8:"schedule";s:8:"halfhour";s:4:"args";a:0:{}s:8:"interval";i:1800;}}}i:1220761045;a:1:{s:17:"wp_update_plugins";a:1:{s:32:"40cd750bba9870f18aada2478b24840a";a:3:{s:8:"schedule";s:10:"twicedaily";s:4:"args";a:0:{}s:8:"interval";i:43200;}}}s:7:"version";i:2;}

2) Error 404 with /index.php/%postname%/ permalink structure
If you’re not a tech-head, you might prefer the user-friendly summary of that page.
(However this is an error with 2.6 and 2.6.1 was supposed to fix it)
My permalinks do not involve index.php, it was simply:
/%category%/%postname%
So this "fix" won’t help me anyway
(but may help you if you have the word index.php in your permalinks)

3) Checking error logs.. (went into ftp and downloaded all the error_log files)
Lots of "MySQL server has gone away" type errors.
Lots of suggestions of what those errors "might" mean on this site.
Ugh… Did a "check database" in my backend .. it said everything was ok.
Ran the "repair database" anyway. Meh.

4) Disabled all plugins. Made no difference.
I just wanted to make sure that it wasnt some funky plugin causing a database overload or something. :)

5) Deleted the index.php and backup files and my spare php.ini file heh.. Im really kinda clueless when it comes to this stuff, I wonder how complete newbies go. Made no difference. Re-uploaded my index.php file.

6) Um.. deleted my .htaccess file (Im wild & crazy and desperate).

And um, that seemed to fix the f*@kn problem!
Sheesh, hours of my life wasted by my .htaccess file..

My .htaccess file contained:

# BEGIN WordPress<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /wordpress/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /wordpress/index.php [L]
</IfModule>

# END WordPress

??

Wow, you now what’s really strange about this?

Other users have had to ADD that .htaccess info to get it WORKING in 2.6 - yet for me, I had to DELETE the bloody thing to get it working.

I wonder if someone smarter than me can explain why deleting that worked.. or more-so, why it waited a few hours to break.. why didn’t it break immediately after the upgrade? ie: I was able to use the blog for hours after the upgrade while I tested to see if anything was broken, re-enabling widgets, writing posts & pages, etc..

Pretty please? :)

Ugh.. but wait! lol.. I just worked out that only the posts on the frontpage work.. so I guess I do have the same permalink problem *as well* as all the other people with the 2.6 permalink problem that 2.6.1 was supposed to fix..

Hmm, but my fix for it seemed to be a lot easier than theres.. I went into the permalink settings.. changed it from /%category%/%postname% to just /%postname%/ , saved it.. browsed.. then changed it back to /%category%/%postname%
and it seems to be working.. *holding breathe in*

Other People’s Posts/Dramas/Fixes that I found along the way:

Upgrading this blog to 2.6.1 - Wish me luck

Well after trialling a couple of my new blogs in 2.6.1, I feel like Im ready for my older blogs to be updated..cos I really like the new "feel" of the backend of the other sites… but updating sites that have tonnes of plugins is *SCARY* lol.

This blog has the most plugins because its my test site for all the plugins that I install before putting them on my other blogs.. so it will be interesting to see what breaks in this process..

I’ll update this post with the results when it’s done if I can work out which plugins "die" after the upgrade..

I’ll be using the "wordpress-automatic-upgrade" plugin to do the upgrades cos, Im not technical enough to do it the old fashioned way, so it will be a good chance to see how well that plugin does too :)

Wish me luck ;)

==

Ok.. 6 minutes later.. the upgrade is done.. and um.. everything seems fine.. what the? lol

So much for my big review of all the broken plugins etc.. :)

Oh.. I knew it was too good to be true.. just started noticing what’s broken.. ok, here goes..

(1) Couldn’t re-enable one of my Paid plugins - WP VideoTube (Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.) automatically -or- manually.  Which is weird, cos I have that plugin installed already on all of my 2.6.1 blogs.. however, they are due for a new version any *second* now, cos they are fixing youtube’s silly change of API (that caused a lot of duplicate content to show up if the plugin was set to automatic which was pretty annoying).. so Im not so concerned, especially because I dont use it at all on this blog, it’s mainly for my affiliate-blogs.
I wonder if I delete the plugin and re-upload it whether it will work.. Hmm.. Nope! Interesting :\

(2) WP Shortcodes still don’t work for me.. on this blog.. gotta be one of my plugins doing it heh.
I especially want the PostTabs plugin to work.

(3) The tabbed widgets that I used to have in my sidebars have disappeared.
They are still enabled in the options and enabled in the "Widgets".
Good news however, after removing it and re-adding it in the widgets section, it looks like it works..
I don’t think I like the plugin anymore though heh, so Ill be removing it anyway now that Ive seen the site without it.

That seems to be it, everything else seems to be working (and the same things that were broken before, are still broken lol) so my wish that 2.6.1 would fix these other annoyances didnt seem to help… but it is definitely a better version..
