So I tested the plugins in this post.
Some of them I couldn’t get working.. but I think I have an issue anyway since I can’t seem to get any Wordpress Shortcodes working right now.
But that aside, here is an update of those that I found to be so awesome that they have been added to my "Must-Install on Every Wordpress Site" list:
My absolute fave is this one:
(Although this wasn’t on the official competitions list, it should be! The Adminimize plugin suggested that their plugin was compatible, so I downloaded it, and I just love the drop-down plugin so much.. it’s a keeper, I’m never going back!).
The Drop-Down Lighter Admin Plugin should be part of the Wordpress Core as far as I’m concerned! Lighter Menus creates Drop Down Menus instead of the regular Admin menus for WordPress, so that you can browse items with one click. Fast to load, adaptable to color schemes, Lighter Menus comes with silk icons, a option page, and a design that fits within the Wordpress interface taking the less room possible.
And a very close 2nd fave is this one..
After you install a new plugin after this, it gives you the link to the options page for that plugin. I think this should also be in the Wordpress Core. So useful and time-saving.
If a visitor hovers over a link in your blogroll, it will pull up a specified amount of feeds for that link (if that link has an RSS feed). You can test here by hovering over the "Development Blog" link under "Plugin Help" in my 2nd sidebar. How sweet is that?
This very sweet must-have plugin allows inline editing of the date, title, author, categories, tags, status and more on both posts and pages without leaving the “Manage” admin sections. Also should be in core! damnit *stamps feet*
Enables you to display multiple sidebar widgets to maximize how your visitors reference your posts, links, categories and comments. Very handy for just displaying a list of posts in a certain category, etc.
This plugin lets you really customize what options you’d like with your site comments, like:
- @OriginalPoster" Reply Link
- Quote Link
- Comment Ordering
- Separate or Remove Trackbacks
- Comment Tags
For admin, it also gives a list of comments that are in need of a reply, and gives you some cool widgets you can apply to your sidebars like:
- Recent Comments (with or without images)
- Recent Trackbacks
- Most Active Discussions
- Most Active Commenters
Your registered users can now invite others to your blog.
When a register user logs into your site, they can see a new tab called "Invite Friends". Where you control how many friends they can invite. They just type in the name/email address of their friend, and a nice email with an automatic link is sent to them.
They click on the link and after they type in their name, it will automatically log them into your site.
These look great.. if only they would work for me..
These plugins looked awesome too, just can’t get them to work for me, but don’t see anyone else having trouble with them so they will probably work for you, I seem to have a problem with my wordpress shortcodes, looking forward to getting over that hurdle and getting stuck into these:
Still waiting to see SEO Smart Links in action as it hasn’t really done anything yet, but it sounds like a great idea :)
And I’ve added this one as a must-have too.. Where have you been all my life?
Also not part of the competition, I must’ve found it through the links though because I downloaded it at the same time. I’ll do a separate write-up about it when I have more time. But try it out, you’ll be so glad you did! :)

I think your feet stomping paid off. (Manageable has been integrated into the core.)
