Been installing Facebook comment plugins on this blog “on and off” for years. I’ve even purchased a few of them but nothing has ever gone right and for the past 18 months or so, I’d completely removed it, only re-enabling whilst testing another one – getting frustrated, and disabling, etc. It’s always been a bit of a nightmare really. Until now.

I don’t know what magic voodoo the universe is working on me, but with this new plugin, I literally.. added it to wordpress, clicked activate. And voila.  No messing with FB apps, no messing with incompatible themes or plugins, no messing with jquery conflicts, and it even integrated my normal wordpress comments within it’s nice design layout. It truly is an occasion worthy of a celebration to me!

Now you can comment on any of my posts with Facebook, Google+, Disqus, or the normal default commenting system.

Want to know which WordPress plugin won over my heart?

Surprisingly it was a free one called “Comments Evolved” [Demo/Download]

  • To install it, just login to your wordpress site, go to Plugins > Add New
  • Search for “Comments Evolved” (should be the first option that comes up ‘Comments Evolved for WordPress’)
  • Click on “Install Now”

There are no API’s to setup, it just works out of the box – even on my crazy-assed blog full of a gazillion plugins and a ten-year old database.

You can tweak the text, remove the icons, and order the tabs by going to Settings > Comments Evolved.. AND it can replace your Disqus or Livefyre plugins (cumbersome and heavy) (I created a new disqus account in 2 seconds flat too – though not really sure I need it for this one, but if I had an existing disqus account, it would definitely be worth it)

Midas touch tonight I’m telling you!

The only thing I want to sort out with this plugin is the location of the Comment Area label (where it says “Have something to add?”) I’m pretty sure this is theme-related or maybe related to the other plugin that I have in the same position, so I’m pretty sure it won’t be a design problem for others (unless you are a plugin-junkie like I am.. although noone is as bad as me I’m sure!)

Anyways.. Comments Evolved. Remember that name. Use it. Love it. Dance the *happy dance* with me.

  1. Oh, oh. Thank you! Doing my own happy dance. I’ve just moved from blogger to self-hosted with wordpress. Having quite a ball experimenting with plug-ins! So with this plugin, do you mean that facebook comments will automatically show up on the blog? Have I got it right, or am I getting ahead of myself?! Does happen occasionally!

If so, that is exactly what I’ve been looking for, because I tend to get more comments on facebook, but hardly any on my blog, and wanted to make the blog comments section a bit more “lively”…!

    1. Yep, FB comments show up straight away… and you can make it the primary if you like.. it allows you to re-arrange it the way you want it (Facebook first, then WordPress, Google+ etc or however you like). Because this blog started with just wordpress, I’ve kept wordpress as the first one, but I wish it would make sense for me to make Facebook the first one, because it will encourage more comments :)
“Next blog” it will be :)
